Chaney Architecture in association with MCDF Architects has recently completed a development application for Catholic Education WA’s corporate headquarters site in West Leederville.
The site includes a number of significant heritage buildings and supports the work of over 180 administrative staff across six Directorates within the organisation. The masterplan incorporates options for the long-term development of the site, including staging options.
The building has been conceived as a fully integrated composition of terracotta coloured forms that draws on both the material and formal characteristics of the foundation buildings of the centre.
The lower scaled, pyramid and gable roofed Formation Centre is located along the western edge of the site, creating a more domestic and varied built form prospect to its neighbouring residential properties. The roof forms deliver generous volumes and natural day-lighting to the Formation Centre’s gathering spaces as well as screening much of the upper-level office glazing from neighbours’ backyards. Gabled roof forms along the northern and southern elevations engage with and integrate the multi-storey office components of the building with the lower scaled forms of the Formation Centre.
